Winter CG Update

February 1st, 2011

Hello gardeners,

Are you thinking about gardening in the middle of winter? I’ve been thinking for a month about updating all of you that are part of the winter Community Garden season. It is good to see some of you from time to time as you are getting your produce.

If you have not been out for awhile here is what we still have: cabbage, onions, russet potatoes, winter squash, and carrots. Ask us for directions on digging carrots if you have not been getting them yet. The greens are pretty picked over right now, but are growing so we can start picking again in March and April.

Speaking of next month, it looks like we should finish the winter with a flourish. Not only will the collards, kales, & Swiss chard have some fresh new growth, but maybe the winter beets, that never sized up much, will develop into an edible size. Also our winter cauliflower is looking good, so we hope to have a good crop from mid-March through April.

In checking your cards, I am very pleased with the high percentage of you that finished your work hours this year. There are a few that only have some winter hours to complete. We have a few of the cherry tomatoes that still need to be taken down if you want to complete your hours on the dry days that we are having from time to time now.

We will have the 2011 sign up forms ready some time in April. Thanks for all your help this last year.
