Here is some info about crops, work, and questions we have been asked, which should be of interest to all Community Garden members.
CANNING QUANTITIES: Let us know when you are ready to put up any veggies and we will let you know when they are ready and how you get them (picked or u-pick). Some items, such as beans, are ready for you to pick anytime now, so there is no need to call us about them. Others such as corn, tomatoes, broccoli, etc. we will let you know when they are available.
CROPS: Be sure to check the blackboard in the packing shed for what is ready. Some items may be out occasionally, but most items are available regularly. The newest items are melons (cants and small watermelons), corn, onions, and artichokes. There is always lettuce, cabbage, and zucchini.
BAGS: We have been very low or out of plastic bags over the last couple of weeks, so bring you stash of them out if you want something to put your veggies in.
WORK: We have been appreciating all the good work you are doing. We will be working on Labor Day if you want to put some of your time in that day. You are down to the last 2 months to get your time in. For you carpenters, we still have bins to repair ASAP. Using your skill this way should beat hoeing weeds! Call us about that project.
WINTER SEASON: If you want to get veggies through the winter, the winter signup deadline of 9/1 has snuck up on us. We will take signups for the next 2 or 3 days. Remember your hours must be worked by 11/1 because for most jobs it is too wet after that.
PUMPKIN SELLING: We will send out a schedule in late September for you to sign up for this. We will give preference to those who have a majority of their time in, because this job is a fun way to finish the season. Don’t plan on selling pumpkins to get most of your time in.
POTLUCK PICNIC: We have had 3 CG families inquire about having a picnic here on the farm for all of the CG members. If you would like to help plan it, let us know, and we can get you in touch with each other. Sounds like fun if some of you want to plan it.
We are having a busy year working with all (over 75 families!) of you, but you are getting a lot of work done, and we hope you are staying healthy eating all the organic vegetables.
Keep in touch,
David & Nancy
