Community Garden Update 6/24/2015

Hello fellow farmers!

We have been enjoying working with all of you this year. It is a delight to have this large farm “family” of over 100 family units. It seems like we are just about cleaned up hoeing the berries or onions and then we look around and see some more to do. Now we are uncovering the beets and carrots, so there is much to do. So now is the time to get many of your hours in. Our employees are keeping busy with some of the same tasks on other crops. Thanks to all of you for your help in keeping the farm going.

One of the blessings of this warm year we are having is that the crops are maturing earlier than normal. So we have been enjoying lettuce for a couple of weeks now, along with some broccoli. Cauliflower is starting now, with the summer squashes, including zucchini, not far behind.

The big news today is that there are berries ready to pick! There are Marions, Boysens, and Sylvan blackberries ready now. Nancy is concerned that we will lose some if they don’t get picked right away, which is probably true with the very hot weather in the next few days. So bring your containers to pick in and get your berries put up for the year.

Thanks,

Farmer Brown and His Mrs.
