CSA Update 10/21/14

Good evening to all,

The winter CSA season will start in November. Many of you are signed up and ready to enjoy the winter offerings, but if you have not signed up for that season you can do so until November 1st. The first pick-up will be on the 11th.

Now for your produce this week. The romanesco plantings are larger now so we had a good pick today. We call romanesco broccoli our “weird crop” because of its unusual shape. It is pointed and all the florets are pointed so it gives some unusual texture on the plate. The other green item is green cabbage which more people are using this time of year. The onions this week are some JBO whites, which you can use with the colorful red potatoes which are always quite tasty. Your last item is the teardrop-shaped red kuri squash which is sometimes called a “baby red hubbard”. It is good for pies and purees because the specks of skin (being red) will not show.

Thanks again,

Farmer Brown and His Mrs.
