Good evening after a busy day loading giant pumpkins onto trucks, along with specialty pumpkins for New Seasons. This is the week that most of the giants go out to Fred Meyer and to a number of other customers. A busy but fun time!
Somewhere along in that busy schedule today Nancy reminded me that we have our wonderful CSA folks to think about too. After a review of the other crops that were being picked we came up with a nice yellow and green mix of veggies with a splash of red thrown in also.
The yellow items are beans and corn, the green are lettuce and zucchini, and the red is beets. We are picking the last of the beans with the yellow wax being the most abundant, so you will have enough for at least a couple of meals. The same with the corn. It is the last planting of this wonderful supersweet yellow that we have enjoyed all summer, so you will have enough to not quite use up a whole cube of butter!
The later plantings of lettuce are filling out beautifully and really look clean and nice. We hope to have some for you each week of the rest of this summer season. Hopefully one or the other of the zucchinis will be available most of the month too as we transition into the winter squashes. The red beets are always tasty and also start us thinking about winter foods.
Have a great week. Eat well!
